Legal Issues

I must premise this post with the statement that it is long overdue.

So, when I began this internship (as a lowly light carrier and coffee fetcher) I accompanied Landon on several independent photoshoots and learned some important lessons about location, permission, and exchange.

This particular photoshoot was with model Tonisha Williams and makeup artist Lana Johnson-Peters from 987 Beauty.

After a very successful start, we ran into copyright issues as we began shooting around the storefronts of several businesses.  After drawing quite a crowd, we were approached by mall cop who told us to stop.  He told us, for security proposes, it was illegal to take pictures in the storefronts.  He kindly said that the open park in the middle was open for our purposes.  Luckily for us, we had already snagged a good 300 photos before the incident.  Squirreling around the many children that were playing in the park, we were able to end the shoot on a good note.

I think the one lesson I learned from this experience is the importance of when to ask for permission about taking pictures when corporate businesses are involved.

It has been a long time since Lina or myself have had the chance to update about our experiences in interning but you dear reader can rest assured that the posts will begin to flow (consistently we hope) now that midterms have ended! Huzzah!

Last Wednesday I helped Landon organize a shoot with Jantzen O'Connor. Besides the almost unbearable heat it was a very successful shoot! I took over 400 images and am still editing! Here's one image I am experimenting with currently. The idea of incorporating textures is new to me and I hope I begin to get the hang of it soon. Until then bear with me!

Almost two weeks ago I accompanied Landon on a casting shoot for the Wilhelmina Model Agency in Austin. I am also still editing and going through the massive amounts of images I took for this shoot as well. Here's one image I've edited. I'm big on experimentation right now. As you can see I'm experimenting not only with textures but with gradient features!

I'll leave you all with a quote!

The “Earth” without “Art” is just “Eh.”
